Blessed with powerful vocals, Shilpa Rao might have been an unlikely but most suitable candidate in the house of soul. Born in 1984 in Jamshedpur, India to a musical dad, Rao began singing at an early age and by the time she turned 13 – the famed playback singer, Hariharan, encouraged her to start singing jingles for ads.

Trained under Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, she rose to fame after a series of chart topping songs in Bollywood films including ‘Khuda Jaane’ from Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), ‘Mudi Mudi Ittefaq Se’ from Paa (2009), ‘Manmarziyan’ from Lootera (2013), and countless others.

In a career spanning over a decade, Shilpa Rao would be making her first appearance on Coke Studio, Season 9, showcasing her incredible singing chops on a platform that she’s very excited to have graced.
